Featured Presentation

PolyBase in SQL 2016 - The Key To A Data Revolution?

Speaker: David Benoit, Product Manager SQL Sentry

Summary: Summary: The addition of PolyBase to SQL Server will open the door to data stored external to SQL Server, allowing for big unstructured data and structured data to be brought together using familiar methodologies. Goals: Provide details on the fundamentals of PolyBase, and the integration with SQL Server. Provide demonstrations on how PolyBase can be used to bring unstructured and structured data together using common query methodologies. Provide guidance on performance considerations when using PolyBase. Abstract: With the announcement that SQL Server vNext will be shipping with PolyBase, there should be an ever increasing buzz in the database community about the doors that will be opened with this addition to the platform. Previously in order to get access to PolyBase you needed to have an APS appliance on-prem, but now that limitation is removed, allowing access to PolyBase functionality within SQL Server. What does this mean to the standard database shop now that PolyBase will open the door to access data stored outside of SQL Server? This presentation will provide an overview of PolyBase , a look at how it works "under the hood", and working examples of how PolyBase can benefit you in your environment. We will also look at how Microsoft is using PolyBase in conjunction with massively parallel data warehouse technologies like the Analytics Platform System and Azure SQL Data Warehouse. The only prerequisite for this presentation is an open mind, and the desire to look through the doors that PolyBase opens to SQL Server users in the future. It may just start a revolution in your data world! Prerequisite: The only prerequisite is an open mind, and the desire to look through the doors that PolyBase opens to SQL Server users in the future.
